1John 3:22-4:6/Ps 2:7-8, 10-11/Matt 4:12-17, 23-25
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Jesus Christ, the reading describes how Jesus began preaching in Galilee. This act fulfills the prophecy of Isaiah that “the people who sit in darkness have seen a great light.” Jesus’ ministry in Galilee fulfills Isaiah’s prophecy, bringing light to a region that has been in darkness (verses 13-16). It encourages us to let the light of Christ guide us. We should follow his light as the Magi were guided by the star to Bethlehem.
Jesus has just been baptized by John the Baptist (Matthew 3:13-17) and tempted in the wilderness (Matthew 4:1-11). He returns to Galilee. There, He begins His public ministry. He proclaims the kingdom of heaven and heals the sick. Jesus’ message and mission: Jesus’ message is one of repentance. It emphasizes the kingdom of heaven and the need for spiritual transformation.
Jesus proclaims, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near” (17), emphasizing the need for spiritual transformation. Jesus’ ministry expands: Jesus travels throughout Galilee, teaching in synagogues, preaching the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness. Crowds follow Jesus: People from Galilee, the Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea, and beyond the Jordan River join him. They seek healing and spiritual guidance (24-25).
Last Saturday we reflected on the reason why do we pray, what we need from Jesus. Jesus’ message is of repentance and the kingdom of heaven, emphasizing the need for spiritual transformation.
Repent, repent, repent, … Repentance of the soul from darkness of sin.. This is the first step you must do to follow Jesus, to be a disciple of Jesus. Repent, repent. Sacrament of Baptism heals original and all sins we committed before this sacrament. Because of human weakness we often offend our friend Jesus. Today he started his mission by telling us to repent. If you want to enter the kingdom of heaven repent. It is not too late; you are to listen this teaching of Jesus today.
The hardest part of many things is getting started. Don’t miss a single day. Start now your spiritual transformation, avoid resistance, laziness, and distractions. This morning mass must bring light into your life. It must be your walking stick. As you go back, do not forget the word of God. At least remember that today’s reading Jesus is inviting us to repent.
Don’t wait another day for repentance. Do not wait another day for prayer. When you wake up in the morning and you are feeling lazy or sleepy, remember that Jesus needs you. Also, remember that you need a spiritual transformation. Begin today to have your personal prayer, and rosary! Your life will be transformed. The sooner you begin the habit, the deeper the habit will take root in your life. And your life will be forever changed and renewed because of it. Repent and pray.
God is constantly inviting us to grow, to develop, and to change. He calls us to love more deeply and to become the whole person he created us to be. This requires a daily conversion of the heart. Start each day in prayer. And start each time of prayer by renewing your availability to God.
Never miss your daily prayer time. Never miss your morning daily mass. If something comes up, move it ahead; never put your prayer off. If you do, you will almost inevitably find yourself at the end of the day being busy with many things. These things mean little in the grand scheme of things. You have not spent time with God in this powerful and personal way.
Make a promise to yourself and to the one who gave you the very breath that animates your being. Set aside these few minutes to spend exclusively with God each day. Otherwise, we will not be available to him throughout the day. We must make ourselves available to him entirely for the promised time. If we don’t, it will be easy to exclude him. We exclude him from the other parts of our days and lives. Make a promise and keep that promise, one day at a time.
We also told that Crowds follow Jesus. People in large crowds come from Galilee, the Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea, and beyond the Jordan River. They seek healing and spiritual guidance from him (verses 24-25). It is not only spiritual guidance also Jesus heals our sickness, physical and spiritual darkness. Do you know that in every Eucharistic celebration healing and miracle are done? Open yourself to Jesus and accept him with Faith.
When a priest raises the Body of Christ, say ‘Behold the Lamb of God.’ He takes away the sins of the world. Always offer your intention at this moment. Jesus is still healing any sickness. He heals even the ones you think doctors can’t heal, including those with no medicine for them. Jesus is the doctor of doctors. Let me tell you something. The greatest darkness in life is being somewhere you can’t listen to the word of God. This is the worst thing that exists.
Some are gifted in healing but Jesus is the one who heals. It is the name of Jesus that heals. In the first reading Saint John told that we get from God what ask because we keep his commandments. And his commandments is this “We should believe in the name of his son, Jesus Christ and love one another. Even if we don’t have the gift of healing, we can still help the sick. We can offer them comfort and support.
God today visit you in your sickness either physical or spiritual sickness.
God heal your soul . God today give you a spiritual transformation
