Beloved in Christ, in our Gospel reading today, Jesus speaks about the Kingdom of the Messiah, which is the Kingdom of God, under the similitude of two parables. Thus, he says, the Kingdom of God is a like a grain of mustard seed which a man took and sowed in his garden and it grew and became a tree whose branches provide shelter for the birds of the air. And then, he continues that, it is like leaven which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal till it was all leaven.

The word of God, Jesus Christ and His Good News had a very small beginning first like the mustard seed which is the smallest seed but later grew to become the greatest. The parable mentioned the measures of flour and yeast, which when placed together, will become dough that rises and eventually become good bread.

Beloved in Christ, deep within our nature God has planted the seed of God’s life that can grow in surprising ways; deep within our hearts God has placed the yeast of grace that has the potential to transform us into the image of Jesus.

Jesus is saying that the kingdom of God is like these parables. God can work powerfully through the smallest of gestures. The little good that we do, can have consequences far beyond our imagination. The small initiatives we take in the service of one another can bear fruit that we could never have intended; so, wherever providence brings us, we should endeavour to be doing all the good we can.

Finally, considering Jesus’ background he may appear too small and insignificant, but like the mustard seed, His Good News and Mission grew and gained much impact on the lives of the people. Beloved, even in times when we look unpromising to ourselves and others, we can still carry deep inside us a divine treasure whose power is at work within us, that can do immeasurably more than all we can imagine. So, when God is still writing your story, kindly quit trying to steal the pen; trust the author. Therefore, we are each all called to sow seeds of the kingdom in our day-to-day circumstances of lives.

May the Lord help us all in our journey and struggle towards Him, and empower us with the courage and strength, so that we may always be strong in our commitment and dedication to serve the Lord at all times.
