Rev. Fr. Peter Akomanyi Tawiah is a priest of the Catholic Diocese of Damongo. Savannah Region – Ghana, West – Africa. I was ordained a priest on 11th June,2022 at St. Anne’s Cathedral, Damongo by Most Rev. Peter Paul Y. Angkyier, Catholic Bishop of Damongo. My first assignment as a Parochial Vicar is St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Lingbinsi – Daboya. Much of my ministry is spent in serving most especially the deep rural stations of the parish, the poor and vulnerable, promoting devotion to praying the Holy Rosary, the Youth as their Chaplain and those interested in becoming Catholic through the Sacrament of Christian Initiation.
My zeal for such an area of primary evangelization, is to ensure the spreading of the Word of God to a people who are still largely not Christianized. So I consider the work of evangelization and promotion of human development as my main call to mission in this part of the country (Lingbinsi).

In 1999, a small community of St. Paul’s Catholic Community in the Bowina Lingbinsi region of Ghana built a small mud chapel. This chapel is currently able to accommodate only 100 people. It is also used as a place for Catechism classes, and for holding meetings. Unfortunately, due to its current state as shown in the pictures below, it is very dangerous to use for any activity.
Today, a mango tree serves as a shelter for the community to celebrate Mass and to hold meetings. This means that on rainy days, we are not able to celebrate Mass there. Our goal is to erect a new chapel that can accommodate between 200 – 250 people. We have acquired a piece of land in a central place in the village that is accessible to all of the nearby communities.
The plans for the new chapel include a sacristy, so as the communities grows, vessels and vestments can be safely kept there.
Our objective is to provide for the spiritual needs of the Christian faithful of St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Bowina and may also serve as day care nursery for the little children of the village. This will give priests and parishioners an opportunity to visit the Blessed Sacrament and spend quality time with the Lord in prayer. It will also help the priest to frequently celebrate the sacraments with the community.
The presence of the Blessed Sacrament in the Chapel will help the priest to preserve communion for the commissioned catechist of the community, for communion service. It is our desire that when the chapel is built, it will meet both the physical and spiritual needs of the sick, the aged of the community, and the youth for their ongoing formation. We are very excited that building this new chapel will greatly enhance the spiritual lives of the faithful.
The attached estimates show that we would need an amount of about Fifty–one thousand six–hundred US dollars ($ 51,634.61) to build this chapel in Bowina.
I am looking for any support in any amount for this important project in my Parish.
